3D printing can bring many good things to people, but one thing is certain - it opens up a whole new world of possibilities for those who are blind. My inspiration comes from the Atlas of the United States, which was printed specifically for the use of the blind in 1837 at John C. Cray's expense. This project turned out to be a relatively quick job for me, but I know it wouldn't have been possible without my computer. This allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and limitations involved in translating Geomatics data into a printable file, which I hope to overcome soon. The original data source was provided by the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission - Jet Propulsion Laboratory. For more information on SRTM, visit JPL's SRTM website. Here is how I designed this project: Srtm_ramp2.world.360x180-flou_gausien SDK.zip contains the file Srtm_ramp2.world.360x180-flou_gausien.png that openSCAD uses to extrude it.
