An experimental concept for enhancing RepRap fundamentals involves a 3D printable alternative to standard recycling T5 timing belts. Compatible with existing belt gears, this design boasts a 2mm apex-to-trough height. It also allows for scale-up of RepRaps by printing additional sections and attaching longer rods. As an internal-load modular rack and pinion system, the components screw together using regular metric RepRap nuts and bolts. The belt works well with a specific pulley (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:7218), and bears resemblance to another design (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:8938). Adaptation of a bracket for the belt system might enable compatibility with existing hardware and software. Forum discussion available here: http://forums.reprap.org/read.php?2,110697. The process includes printing, screwing together, and installing the new belt system. Any suggestions, relevant information or related knowledge is encouraged to be shared in the comments section.
