To resolve my PLA extruder and X-carriage heat problems, I planned to print new parts in ABS. To prevent further overheating issues, I opted for active cooling. I designed a 4cm fan mounting plate that attaches to the X-belt clamps' bottom. I sourced this 4cm fan (http://www.dealextreme.com/p/cooling-fan-for-vga-video-display-card-4cm-4cm-15564), and printed the mounting plate. I drilled holes to secure the fan with tie-wraps, then attached it to the plate. Next, I fastened the plate to the X-belt clamps using possibly longer bolts for a snug fit. Finally, I wired the fan to my electronics and printed with active extruder cooling for enhanced performance.
