This project involves designs for keeping cooling fans from blowing air on ABS printing build platforms, thereby reducing warping when rafts are not used and increasing print adhesion. Some designs also focus on ABS fume extraction; however, most of these require an additional fan and move a large volume of air, which is counterproductive. The creator combined the best features from various designs using existing Replicator 1 fans to divert air away from the build platform. This design can be fitted with attachments that include active carbon for ABS fume reduction. All parts are designed in Google SketchUp and fit without screws or glue, allowing easy replacement or upgrades. The .thing files attached show the orientation of printing the .stl files using MakerWare's default medium profile settings with raft and support. After extended printing hours, no ABS fumes were detected, print temperatures remained consistent, and better adhesion was achieved compared to regular printing. New attachments are in development, including v4 which features side covers that can be opened for cooling purposes. Opening the cover on the fan side during printing helps with both cooling and fume extraction.
