Replicator 2x filament cooling fan
thingiverse
This is a filament cooling fan mount for the left nozzle of a Makerbot Replicator 2x, which will likely fit the Replicator 2 as well. It performs exceptionally and does not interfere with the movement of the carriage. This design is a remake of a similar part I found on Thingiverse, but it only cools the left nozzle since I primarily use the left nozzle to print PLA. The part was created using SolidWorks, and the original files are included for anyone who wants to make modifications. It's designed to fit standard 40mm radial fans like those used in Replicators (24V fans). I printed it in ABS and then smoothed it out with an acetone bath. The fan can be attached using 10mm M3 socket head screws, and the mount can be secured to the x-axis carriage using M3 screws or zip ties. A set of wires runs from the 24V rail on the circuit board underneath, and a switch is located on the rear of my machine. I strongly recommend that anyone with a Replicator 2x updates their firmware to the latest version of Sailfish Firmware (available on Thingiverse at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:32084), as it significantly improves the performance of the machine and print quality.
