Replacment Cover for Stern Navigation Light
thingiverse
The cover for my classic runabout's stern navigation marker light (white) disintegrated after being exposed to UV light for an impressive 57 years. Since I couldn't identify the brand of the fixture, and given its age, I didn't bother searching for a replacement. I initially attempted to use syvwlch's SCAD thread library, but encountered stringing problems that required significant cleanup, so I decided to create partial internal threads using a pattern of spheres instead. I would have preferred printing this in nylon, but unfortunately, I didn't have enough on hand. The only other white material available was PLA. In use, it softens a bit due to the heat from the light bulb, but so far shows no signs of melting, and YMMV! Printer Settings Printer Brand: RepRap Printer: Prusa Mendel i3 Notes: This thing is 80mm high: I had to adjust my post-print settings to home Y instead of X upon completion to avoid crashing the extruder stepper into the frame of my Prusa Mendel i3 when it homes the X-axis. Post-Printing Note This thing is 80mm high: I need to remember to lower my extruder by at least 30mm before the next print to avoid crashing the extruder stepper into the frame of my Prusa Mendel i3 when it homes the X-axis.
