I have this amazing vintage oak cabinet that required a brand-new caster wheel so I printed one out in black PLA and it's functioning fantastically! The trick to replacing an ancient 100-year-old wheel is understanding how time can erode its dimensions making the original diameter significantly smaller. A standard-sized replacement would be useless because the other wheels on your furniture have also deteriorated and you don't want your furniture to be unbalanced or wobbly. That's where owning a 3D printer comes in extremely handy. Just take precise measurements and print a wheel that perfectly matches the others. How great is this? I printed four perimeters with 50% infill for added strength, 0.2mm layers and no additional support. The replacement wheel itself accommodates a standard 5mm screw, measuring 17mm in width, and 33mm in diameter to precisely match the other (original) wheels on my cabinet. This is the printed wheel up close. The second picture is of the buffet with its new caster wheel in place, front and back - original wheel is at the front, while the replacement wheel is at the back.
