Some innovative new style filament spools are hitting the market, featuring cardboard hubs and flanges with plastic hub inserts designed for seamless integration into spool holders. Unfortunately, these new spools have tiny holes that prevent me from fitting them onto my Qiditech 1 printer. To solve this problem, I created custom hub inserts that can be easily swapped out for the old ones, eliminating the need to rewind filament onto used spools with proper-sized mount holes. This clever design allows me to use these versatile spools on either machine at will, and also enables compatibility with TUSH spool rollers if desired. To further enhance functionality, I developed an extended version of one side of the spool, perfect for attaching to shorter spool holders. The compact design can be installed on the blank side, while the extended version provides a convenient spot to install a retainer on the open end.
