Replacement Shower Door Latch
thingiverse
These replacement brackets fit seamlessly into the extruded aluminum channel and replace the original magnetic catches that hold a shower door closed. The magnetic sheet originally used by the manufacturer is prone to corrosion and delamination, which ultimately results in a mess. The new brackets easily accept Neodymium Disc Magnets (part number 58605K31, available at http://www.mcmaster.com/# ) and securely lock them in place. The magnets used are nickel-plated, with dimensions of .250" in diameter and .1" in thickness. When inserted into the holes, they provide a snug fit; a small amount of ca is applied to ensure a secure hold. It's crucial to align the magnetic poles so that they attract when installed correctly. Initially, I had hoped for even greater holding power from these replacement brackets, and four magnets per side might have been more ideal than three. Nonetheless, their performance is comparable to the original magnetic catches. Only time will tell how well these brackets will withstand prolonged use, but a test will surely be conducted to evaluate their durability.
