Saturns often experience issues with their manual shifters, primarily due to a rubber cap that secures the shift cable. Several solutions have been proposed, including a steel bushing sold on eBay, which corrects the design flaw but introduces another problem: breaking the plastic end of the cable. This can be costly and time-consuming to fix. One solution is to reattach the broken end by drilling a hole in the steel cable and securing it with a bolt and nut. However, this may only last for four years before the shift cable fails elsewhere. After replacing the shift cable, the end still popped off, prompting the designer to create a stronger replacement part using a 3D printer. The model is designed to fit the steel bushing kit or the original rubber bushing and can be printed with 100% infill in Makerbot Nuclear Green for easy wear checking. Sand the eyelet smooth, drill a hole in the shift cable end, and attach it with a bolt mounted in the top of the eyelet to complete the fix. If using the original rubber bushing, slight scaling may be necessary.
