The Ikea RAST chests of drawers' plastic runners often break, leading to stuck drawers. This Thing enables you to replace them with better alternatives. Many thanks to Dr Mike Prior-Jones and Stuart at Glasgow MAKlab for their assistance in this project. To proceed, download the SVG file; earlier SCAD and STL files are provided for interest but not tested. Laser-cut an 8mm plastic sheet (HDPE preferred due to low friction), countersink screw holes, remove existing runners and drawer knobs, mark new runner hole positions, drill starter holes, attach new runners with 20mm size 4 self-tapping wood screws, slide drawers back into the chest, and enjoy smooth-gliding storage.
