Replacement parts for Hobbyking Slow Stick
thingiverse
The Slow Stick Hobbyking is an incredibly fun plane to fly, offering a truly exhilarating experience. However, after suffering through several crashes that left numerous pieces in need of replacement, I decided to take matters into my own hands and design a new version. This one features a clever design that utilizes M3 screws and nuts instead of glue to secure the various components, making it much easier to swap out damaged parts. One of the key advantages of this design is its ability to be printed without supports if you orient it correctly. To achieve this, I've carefully crafted each part to work seamlessly together. Here's a comprehensive list of the individual components: Motor Mount The motor mount is more brittle than its original counterpart, and it's likely to snap if you crash nose-first. However, it's also incredibly affordable and seems to function flawlessly. This component includes ventilation holes and a 5-degree angle downwards to compensate for torque. I strongly advise using threadlocker due to the low friction between PLA and metal from the screws. To print this piece successfully, make sure the motor is resting on its surface with the motor facing downwards. **Important Note:** Due to the design's unique angle and structure, you won't be able to use the original screws to secure the motor in place. Union I'm not entirely sure how to describe this component, but it's essentially the piece that connects the two carbon fiber spars. Thankfully, it works remarkably well. Servo Wire Guide and Back Landing Gear This part functions exceptionally well, although I do recommend applying some grease to reduce the displacement of servo wires. The landing gear is sturdy and wide, but you might want to consider redesigning it using a spar or rod for added durability. Battery Holders Unfortunately, these battery holders leave much to be desired. I wouldn't recommend using them at all, and I'm more than happy to collaborate on a better design if anyone has any suggestions. Wing Adapters These adapters were created specifically to accommodate horizontal wings after I removed the dihedral angle from my plane. They utilize the same angle of attack as the original pieces (give or take). The wing adapter includes a hole that allows you to use the original Slow Stick landing gear, which is made from wire. Unfortunately, mine broke a long time ago, so I've opted for the included landing gear instead. Front Landing Gear This component is somewhat bulky and prone to snapping easily. In my opinion, it would be better to redesign it using a different material, such as aluminum or carbon fiber, or even use a rod made from these materials.
