Replacement lid for 110 l fish aquarium

<p>Here is a simple, yet quite good solution to replace your broken plastic aquarium lid.<br/> This version is for 110 l aquarium - 800 mm L x 345 mm W x 400 mm H. The glass thickness is 6 mm.<br/> It is quite easy to make this work for any other dimension, just ask me and I will upload it here.</p> <h3>Print instructions</h3><p>This is what I came up with when my good old lid was broken.<br/> The idea is to print the parts and glue them to two window panes using aquarium silicone.<br/> You need to print both front and rear middle section twice and the corners once. To achieve better and uniform appearance of the parts it is better to print them oriented in the same direction.<br/> There are two openings at the back for tubing, wiring for the heater etc.<br/> Apart from the printed parts you will need:</p> <ol> <li>Two window panes for the lid - the rear is 800 x 174 mm, the front is 800 x 170 mm. Both have thickness 6 mm.</li> <li>Bolt and nut M6x30 - 2 pcs. for the hinges.</li> <li>Aquarium silicone to glue the window panes to the plastic parts.</li> </ol> <p>Pay attention when applying the silicone in the slots for the rear lid not to apply where the plastic is mating with the aquarium walls, or else you will not be able to lift it for maintenance or placing the tubes and cables inside the aquarium. I made the slots quite tight so it should be hard to lift it anyway. Also a good practice is when you finish the gluing on the rear side to put the lid slightly on its place to cure in the right shape and dimension. The same goes for the front lid, but I recommend to glue them in separate days in order to have stable rear lid when placing the front lid for curing.<br/> The lid parts need supports, except the two middle extrusions. The same goes for the rear cover.</p> <p>Also, if you want you can apply silicone along the inside rim of the lid that opens to ensure soft closing.</p>
