Replacement for Yaesu FT-290R bottom cover
prusaprinters

Motivation:

I got hold of an old portable amateur radio Yaesu FT-290R, that suffered from leaking batteries. This was probably teh reason why the bottom cover, that is situated next to the leaking batteries, was missing.

So I designed a replacement of the part. I printed it using PLA, but I guess PETG would be better due to higher temperature stability when used portable in a car and in sunshine.

Since I needed a little more stability with the plastic instead of sheet metal, I added some stabilizers and feet on the outside. For shielding, I recommend copper tape on the inside, connected to ground.

Printer:

Prusa i3 MK3

Print Settings:

0,15mm layer thickness, quality, support on build plate only, brim on.
PLA; PETG should be better due to higher temperature resistance.

Orientation:

As in the model, on the edge, longest orientation vertical (!) to provide the stability for the thin areas. When oriented this way, the product is astonishingly stable.

Infill:

Standard, the print consists of mostly perimeters due to the thin wall thickness.

How I designed this model:

I used FreeCAD 0.19.
