Replacement Enclosure for Sphero 2.0
prusaprinters
The Sphero 2.0 from Orbotix is quite old now and if you purchased one when they first came out like we did then the battery is probably no good any more. We recently purchased a Mini Sphero for a gift and it made me reminisce about our original Sphero that has been sitting unused in a drawer for years. When I took it out, I put it on charge and I thought it worked but…well, it just couldn't connect to bluetooth or hold a charge. So off to YouTube went I and found a couple of videos on how to replace the batteries! I won't cover that here but suffice to say it is possible. The batteries are still available on eBay and Amazon. Note - a word of advice - don't be tempted to get a larger capacity battery…there is not a lot of space in the Sphero so be mindful of size.Anyway, I had a couple of goes (including trying to be clever and pause the print part way, insert the robot innards, and then continue…but it doesn't work). This model I am pleased to say works! Once printed, just use a little super glue - very sparingly - to hold it together.Happy battery replacing…Oh one final note…I had to do some post processing to smooth out the insides. I tried printing the other way but found the outside looked a bit rough. I choose to print this way instead to get a nice finish on the outside. The inside will need some sanding to smooth out. The little robot is a very precise fit. (An earlier model was 0.5mm too small and the robot fit but would not operate.)
