Repair (Replacement) for a broken strainer handle.

Motivation

A week or more ago, our old frying strainer handle broke due to its age, heat and use.

Just before moving the remaining strainer to the recycle garbage, Printables.com decided to put up a contest on repairs, so I took the challenge and designed a replacement for this broken handle. (Thank you for doing the challenge, I gained back an old beloved strainer we use all the time)

The Model

The model needs to resist a little bit of heat, usually not above 60C, so PET-G is good for the task.. (If not, soon we will notice it in our kitchen).

The design is simple, done in Fusion 360 using the twin strainer I have, I was able to reproduce it as required.

It is composed by two halves, that are glued together with an epoxy glue. (I used transparent 10min Poxipol).

After the two halves are glued, I heated the strainer metal legs and inserted into the PET-G handle, taking care to sail it with the sailing metal ring.

For printing, here are the settings:

Generic PET-G filament profile (I used eSUN Black PET-G Filament)

30% infill for having strength so you can stand over the drain cover

0.2mm layer height.

No supports needed.

Note: I'm still a rookie with PET-G, but the result is nice.

Last Words

I hope you like this model and if you like it, please give it a like, it will make my day and will allow me to get a Prusa mug.

Don't hesitate to post your makes including comments that can improve the model.

You are kindly invited to follow me to get updated every time I upload a new model.

And the most important: Happy printing & Greetings from the Galilee.
