Rep2 Plate Holder
thingiverse
This is a premium replacement plate holder designed specifically for the Replicator 2. Unlike standard holders that often accommodate plates with limited tolerance, this model seamlessly accepts plates with a +/- 5mm width variation, providing rock-solid security through its advanced sliding mechanism and high-tension springs. Over time, standard holders can become worn out and fail to hold plates securely, but not this premium holder - it remains sturdy even under intense usage. I produced both components in PLA using four complete shells, 100% infill density, and a layer thickness of 0.2mm. To ensure optimal results, I recommend utilizing at least 50% infill, as high infill contributes to increased ruggedness and durability - a crucial factor due to the significant stress exerted by the springs. For the main body component, approach support generation carefully; if possible, omit them altogether for long horizontal 'tunnels' holding the rods. Supports would be welcome but not essential for certain cavities on the underside of the holder, however I always prefer to err on caution - it is advisable to exercise restraint when selecting which areas receive supports. However, support is required for the slide component. Given the challenging nature of this print and the propensity for warping or lifting from the build platform, consider refraining if you frequently encounter these issues. Utilizing high infill also amplifies this risk, therefore if you typically experience trouble with printing flat or objects not sticking to the plate then it might be worth giving this a pass. Besides printed parts, you will require two premium-quality springs and three precision-crafted 3mm-diameter steel rods measuring 130mm in length. These rods are ideal for enhancing structural integrity - you can smooth their ends to ease insertion into designated channels. The included springs work equally effectively as the ones used in Rep2 Extruder Upgrades. It is essential that these materials align with exact dimensions specified to ensure successful assembly and avoid future headaches when operating your device. Installation starts by detaching existing plate holders via thumb screws utilized during leveling adjustments - these parts come off fairly effortlessly once screws are dislodged. Clear any debris before replacing new components in its designated spot followed by a test-run checkup prior usage begins.
