Renvylle Castle

This 14th century tower house ruin stands at the northwesternmost tip of Connemara. The northeastern corner of the four-story castle has collapsed, rendering the structure hazardous for exploration. The castle is famously known as O'Flaherty Castle, a legend claims that the O'Flahertys seized it from the Joyce Clan after brutally slaughtering all but one guest at a wedding held there. O'Flaherty Castle is most renowned for being the home of Donal O'Flaherty and Grace O'Malley (Granuaile Ni Mhaille), the legendary Irish pirate queen, who married around 1546.
