Renault Zoe Anti SD Eject Cap
thingiverse
The Renault Zoe's SD card slot is nestled beside its USB port and Line In plug, but this SD card serves only the navigation system, leaving the media ports nearby in a puzzling placement by Renault. The SD card's placement on the side of the car makes it easy to eject accidentally when inserting something into the tray. This action causes immediate loss of the navigation system, often requiring a complete shutdown and restart before maps are restored. In severe cases, the navigation system might die due to corrupted data, necessitating a new SD card purchase. Determined to solve this engineering challenge, I've devised a high-tech fix that requires only minutes to create. Simply place a cap on the end of your SD card (preferably with the car turned off to avoid ejecting the card while mounting the cap), and when you accidentally push the cap, it won't dislodge the card anymore. This ensures the SD card stays in place, allowing you to find your destination without incident. After printing the cap, be sure to clean up the card slit with a hobby knife to ensure smooth installation. Testing with another card beforehand is also recommended to prevent difficulties during mounting. When inserting the cap into the car, try sliding it over a corner of the SD card and then covering the rest of the card once the corner is secure. However, waiting for three minutes after locking the car allows the navigation system (including the clock display) to shut down before proceeding, just in case. The three versions of the cap differ slightly: version 3 has a wider base, giving it a less protruding appearance and requiring printing with the slit side facing down. Version 2 is one mm shorter than the original but remains untested.
