The Renault Voiturette Type A, a little car created by 19-year-old Louis Renault, was one of the first mass-production vehicles. Launched in June 1899, it featured a De Dion-Bouton gasoline engine with a 273cc capacity, producing 1.75 horsepower. The two-seater car had a top speed of 32 km/h and was equipped with a manual 3-speed gearbox. Measuring 1,900mm in length, 1,150mm in width, and 1,400mm in height, the vehicle weighed 200kg and had a base price of 3,500 French francs. The first model was completed by December 1898, and its success led Louis and his brother Marcel to participate in the Amateur Drivers' Cup road race from Paris to Trouville, finishing first and second. A total of about 1,200 Type A vehicles were produced.
