Renault Fuego

The Renault Fuego is a four-door coupe introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1980, replacing the 15 and 17 models. This iconic car of early 1980s European style had a longer and more successful career in Argentina. The studies for the Fuego began in 1976 at Renault's Style Center under Robert Opron, based on Michel Jardin's designs. It uses the platform and many mechanical parts of the Renault 18, studied and produced around the same time, for cost savings. This coupe does not have major technical differences compared to its predecessors but introduces original lines that are more rounded and aerodynamic (Cx = 0.34), with a bubble hatch entirely glazed and a black lateral band with ribbing, which refines and dynamizes the line. The Fuego recovers the technical solutions of the Renault 18 (traction, longitudinal engine, rigid rear axle) and the platform of the 18 break, but the front suspension with negative camber comes from the Renault 20 diesel. It therefore recovers a good part of the road behavior of the 18.
