The Celtaquatre was born to take the place of the Monaquatre and it did so boldly. The Celtaquatre was in fact the first Renault to offer a bodywork with lines devoted to aerodynamics. The car body was in fact rather sinuous and rounded. One of the main competitors that Celtaquatre had to face was in fact the Citroën Traction Avant 7B, which immediately became famous for its aerodynamic shapes. Like the popular Citroën, the Celtaquatre was offered with a 1.5-liter engine. Characteristic of the Celtaquatre was to be available with two-tone paint as standard, while the solid color paint could only be obtained on request and for a fee. The first series of the Celtaquatre bore the design code ZR1 and was produced until the end of 1934. Starting from 1935 the Celtaquatre ZR2 was introduced, practically identical to the ZR1, except for the two sides of the bonnet, embellished with a series of longitudinal chromed strips on each side. In 1936, a new Celtaquatre series was born: using a frame with an increased wheelbase of 26 cm, the ADC1 series arrived, with the birth of which the coupé and convertible versions also saw the light. The new series also offered a longer body, going from 3.8 to 4.2 m in length. In 1937, a new American-style grille was adopted. In the same year a new version of the Celtaquatre was proposed, called Celtastandard, a simplified and smaller version, without prejudice to the chassis of the ADC1. Already in 1938 the Celtastandard was taken out of production, while on the Celtaquatre new bumpers of new design were adopted. 1938 was also the year in which the coupe version was taken out of production. The Celtaquatre was definitively taken out of production the following year. Its baton was taken up, albeit for a short time, by the Novaquatre in the version with a 1.5-liter engine. Celtaquatre also boasted some satisfaction in the sports field, winning some rallies (Germany, Egypt and France) and setting a record on the Monthlery circuit, running at 111 km / h on average.
