Renaissance Chess Queen
thingiverse
Old chess pieces stare blankly up at him from the cracked plastic surface, their painted eyes seeming to hold a secret they've kept for decades. Dust clings stubbornly to every edge and crevice, casting a yellowish pallor over everything it touches. It's clear this chessboard hasn't seen a game in years, not since some family gathering where tensions ran high and tempers frayed at the edges of laughter. A tiny crack zigzags across the king's chest, like the faint scar on a face that once wore an arrogant smile. The once-pristine white squares are now marred by smudges and stains, testaments to careless hands and forgotten hours. The black squares, however, still gleam in places where no dust has yet accumulated. A scattering of chess pieces lies nearby, as if discarded after a long game gone awry – pawn on top, rook alongside it, while the knight looks away, lost in thought. In another corner, two queens stand tall, one with its top snapped clean off. Someone's old pen lies tangled between the squares, where perhaps a child once tried to leave their mark but accidentally pulled up more than they had drawn – like when you dig a shallow hole only for your entire garden of seeds to come crashing down on your unsuspecting ears. Time and disinterest have worn away what little magic once lived within this set of boards, until it resembles nothing so much as yesterday's trash left uncollected in a world without dreams. Flecks of paint here and there give the impression that someone attempted repairs years back – not very successfully, though. If anything's to be done with this, then all that really matters now is cleaning out each creaking joint until its joints pop clean free once again!
