removable load for PIKO coal cars
thingiverse
I picked up removable coal loads for my freight cars at a hobby store and decided to create my own. They fit perfectly into PIKO Eas and Eas-x 4 axle coal cars, which I tested with model numbers: 96051, 96013-2, 58725. The dimensions of the insert are 140x29.5x17mm. To print these inserts, I used a DIY printer based on the Prusa i3 design. The printing settings were as follows: * Rafts: Not necessary * Supports: Not needed * Infill: 10% After printing, I prepared my load by using coal to model the loads that are commonly seen around my area. However, I avoided powdered coal because it can create a messy and unnatural appearance. Instead, I crushed a lump of coal into small chunks, about 1-2mm in size. To match the color of my load, I used spray paint to coat the top of the insert with black. Once prepared, I placed the load onto the insert and glued it down using diluted wood glue. This process is similar to ballasting tracks. After waiting for the glue to set, which took around 12 hours for me, my removable coal loads were complete!
