Removable Folding Spool Arm for Lulzbot Mini
pinshape
When we constructed the enclosure for our Lulzbot Mini 3D printer, we required a replacement for the stock pivoting spool holder, so we designed a bracket to mount a removable spool arm. The initial version was simply a hack (literally - we used a hacksaw to cut off the bottom of the stock arm, and made it removable with the printable bracket we created). We also produced a printable variation of this where we removed the bottom in OpenSCAD. However, we were never truly satisfied with that solution, so here is an upgraded spool arm. This one utilizes the same bracket as the old hack, but it changes the upper end to pivot and fold up for storage. We're extremely pleased with the final product. Moreover, it is still printable, and we designed it so that both pieces fit on the build platform of the Lulzbot Mini (the stock arm did not). Now you can print your own removable-folding spool arm. This project is part of our effort to enhance our enclosure kit for the Lulzbot Mini. If you're interested, the kit is available at: http://drazzticaction.com/products-page-2/3dprinters/lulzbot-acrylic-enclosure/ We designed it to reuse the two bolts that came with the stock arm, so you don't need to purchase anything additional. Simply unscrew the two bolts from the old arm and screw them in from each end to secure the pivoting arm on the pillar. It's as straightforward as that!
