Remote Slicer (Alpha)

Remote Slicer (Alpha)

thingiverse

Remote Slicer, a client-server program, offloads slicing tasks to a fast computer while allowing control of the printer through a slow/power-efficient device. With Alpha4, connection timeout has been increased to 60 minutes for slicing times over one minute. Linux support was added in Alpha3, and features like using multiple services as fallbacks and configurability for clients and services are also included. Live feedback from the slicing process is planned, along with supporting more (if not all) slicers and making the service a windowless background program. Offloading slicing to a fast machine improved one user's slicing times by a factor of 6, reducing a moderately complex model's slicing time from 230 seconds on an Atom Netbook to 37 seconds on a Core 2 Quad computer. Follow the project for updates and future versions. Be sure to use the latest versions of both client and service and configure the host software accordingly. Setup instructions and prerequisites are provided in the instructions.
