Remote Direct Drive Extruder - Nimble Clone

Remote Direct Drive Extruder - Nimble Clone

thingiverse

This is a work-in-progress version of my nimble clone that I've been developing for several months, so I'm posting it online. I still need to fine-tune the tolerances on the worm screw and gear to make it perform better after printing. However, if you decide to build one, be sure the worm screw can turn smoothly without catching by gently smoothing out high spots on the worm screw bit by bit. This design should theoretically fit any Nimble V1 extruder mount. Although I based it around the HEVO Nimble mount with an E3D v6, as it's still a work-in-progress, your mileage may vary. Currently, I'm focused on resolving the issues rather than ensuring compatibility with other mounts. The gear ratio is 18:1, and I've used a smaller diameter drive hob compared to the Nimble, which should be approximately equivalent to a 24:1 ratio on the Nimble. 2019/11/23: * I added a new cam lock for the breech that allows more direct and even pressure on the filament without bottoming out against the case. * I included new upper and lower cases for internal bearing tolerances/alignment and the new cam lock breech. * I added a new breech gate and bearing pin to allow more clearance for pushing filament into the extruder gear with greater force. (Rough) BOM: * 1x M2 screw for the breech hinge * 1x M3x8mm screw for the breech cam lock * 2x Long M3 screws for the mount (I think I used 35 and 40mm) * 4x M3 screws for the stepper mount * 2x M5 screws for the stepper mount * 2x M5 T-slot nuts for the stepper mount * 2x M3 nuts for the mount screws * 3x 5x8x2.5mm bearings * 2x 12x8x3.5mm bearings * 1x 5mm to 3mm brass coupler (drilled out from 3mm to 1/8" for the drive cable) * 1x 1/8" flexible shaft with a squared off end (I used this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PLCKQMQ) * 1x 5mm I.D. E3D Hobb-Gobblin extruder gear (I used a shorter grub screw from the couplers I got, the E3D grub screw was too long) * 1x 1/4" O.D. SAE J844 nylon air brake tubing (I used this tubing, but you only need ~1 meter to match the flexible shaft: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074KD1DCH)
