This is a model I made years ago as a proposal for improvement of the existing control boxes on umbilical reels used on the Dalia project by Aker Solutions and Total. This remote is situated on the drill floor and allows the operator to remotely control a reel holding the umbilical connecting hydraulic and electrical functions on the X-mas tree and landing string during deployment and installation fase building a subsea well. the water depth on the Dalia field, block 17 outside Angola holds water depths of 850 to 100 mtr. which depends on umbillicals of about 1100 mtr. length.during run in hole there are both a manually controlled strain on the umbilical and also Tubing Hanger epossibility of applying a constant tension to keep the umbilical in controlled strain.The reason for this improvement was to prolongue life of the control valves and to implement a sturdier housing, due to the harsh environment we experienced malfunction os the control valves as well as poor maintenabillity of constant tension.
