I've owned several scoopers found at pet stores, and NLarson created an excellent version of these tools. However, I discovered three major flaws with these scoopers. Firstly, the 90-degree angle between the shovel and handle was not ideal for use. To improve this, I adjusted it by pulling it back 20 degrees towards the body, which significantly simplified its operation. Secondly, the front edge of the shovel would simply push against the grass, creating a barrier that made raking more difficult. To resolve this issue, I added a jagged edge (teeth) to the face of the shovel, allowing for smoother and more efficient raking. Lastly, the shafts often broke due to the previous issues, rendering them unusable. By incorporating a universal broom handle insert, these problems were effectively addressed, making the scoopers much more reliable and effective.
