Remix of Dodecahedron Sponge Experiment originally posted in April 2009 by Mathieu Glachant (syvwlch). Mathieu was an early Thingiverse user, and he posted the first topologically-generated designs on the Thingiverse, as well as several other firsts*. This was cutting-edge design work at the time, especially considering the available technology and only an emerging understanding of overhangs and supports. Of the series he posted, I liked this one the best and thought it could be printed with today's 3D-printing technology (Prusa i3 MK3) using mostly defaults settings and some supports. For bed adhesion, I rotated the original model slightly (X = -1.7°) and cut 1.0 mm from the bottom. I also applied spray-on supports to the first/lowest overhangs. The uploaded STL file is the modified model I printed. Overall, it printed well. Some overhangs did need a little trimming and sanding. <br> *Some of Mathieu's other firsts include: - Architectural structure: Gothic Nave Section - (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:139) - Remix combining two exsiting things: Birdhouse Variant - Suction Cups to Affix to Window (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:208) - Thin-layer design: Print Flat - Roll Into 3D, Heptagonal Column (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:482) <br> - - - - - I reviewed the very early Thingiverse, noting firsts, developments, trends (e.g., first thing, stl file, toy, supports, print-in-place, etc). If you're interested, I've organized my findings into a [First-Year of the Thingiverse](https://www.thingiverse.com/antonaccid/collections/39887127/things) collection. For each included thing, I also posted a Comment describing its significance.
