Remix of 90 degree pipe fitting for Customizable Pipe Constructor
thingiverse
I wanted to print a single piece 90 degree angle pipe fitting as I didn't want to glue them together as they are more of a stress point for the things that I'm building with these pipes. I did print it with supports. Cura settings for 20 percent support infill density and I chose zigzag for support type - comes off easier. I had no problems removing supports and the threads functioned fine even after removing supports. I printed this in Overature PLA with a Longer LK5 Pro. Thanks to all of Denis0k's work on this project - I merely made a quick easy change. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3178738/files - his original project A couple people in the comments (on the original project page) asked how to do a retro style paint job. I like to make a "aged" look by painting a base color. Say 2 to 3 coats of a base layer. If you want aged brass, then paint the base brass a few coats and let it dry well. Then paint a layer of black over the entire surface (2 coats if needed). Then I usually use a combination of sandpaper (220 grit) to sand the black layer down to the base layer color in a bunch of spots. Especially the high spots are where you want to sand and by the threads. Any "ridges" should be sanded to the base color. In addition or alternatively, I like to use rubbing alcohol or mineral spirits to rub some of the black color off to make it looked aged and worn. Play around with a few pieces first to try out the technique. There are youtube videos out there. For a black pipe and rusted look, paint the pipe black - 3 coats, then a single coat of orange around the threads and certain spots of the pipe. Then paint over the orange with another layer of black and then do the same as above, use sandpaper to sand down to orange or a rag with rubbing alcohol or mineral spirits. Then was the item afterwards with soap and water and dry. Sometimes its good to take pictures of the pieces after you paint the orange on them before the final coat of black so you know where to sand it down - what spots? Thats why I spray high spots and the ends of each piece so I know where to sand. 3/22/2022 added images of a paint job in progress. You'll see in the pictures that I have my pipes and connectors painted black and just added a coat of orange and another black layer on top. Then I basically just used some rubbing alcohol to remove some of the black paint.
