REMIX from Scan The World: Winged Victory of Samothrace at The Louvre, Paris

When I first downloaded this stunning replica, I was struck by its massive size. It had been designed to be printed at a whopping meter in height. As soon as I scaled it down to fit my average-sized 3D printer, the entire print job came out to about six inches tall - a far cry from impressive. I re-sized and split it into two pieces to double the overall dimensions, making it approximately one foot tall - a respectable size for such an iconic piece. The real challenge in making it even bigger lies in the massive wingspan that spans my entire printing chamber. Thankfully, the two pieces fit together seamlessly, with barely a noticeable seam because it appears to be part of the figure itself. One critical note: you must print both pieces with supports or risk creating a complete mess. This object is part of "Scan The World", a non-profit initiative launched by MyMiniFactory to create a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks and landmarks from around the world for public access at no cost. Scan The World is an open-source, community-driven project.
