Remix - Ender 5 Dual Z 2020 (Bed Support)
thingiverse
Wild1z2 ( Rob Wild) has a great design. I have tried a couple of dual Z mods for the Ender 5. They worked, but had too many 3d printed parts that were supporting a lot of weight and stress. I found they deformed over time. I had to keep getting the Z screws back into alignment. This design seemed to address a lot of the problems that I had and gave me the Z height back and my lost Y area. The changes I made were to make fewer parts to mount and made it easier to align correctly. I combined all of the parts into one print for the bed support and the side caps. All of the other material needed are the same as in the original thing. Please read https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4224933 All of the important information is there. I just tried to improve the build process and eliminate parts that needed to be aligned. The bed support side is 246mm long and could be used as a cutting guide for the Aluminum extrusion. I had built the original version with all of the pieces, but could not get everything to align correctly. That's when I thought of combining them. I also used 2040 aluminum for the 300 mm lengths - just because I needed to gain the extra Z height that was lost from my other mods. This mod will make your Ender 5 into a baby Ender 5 Plus and should improve the bed stability. You will have to change your firmware to 4 times the turns for the original Ender 5 lead screw or 2 times for the newer ones. I did use the 22 mounting plate lead screws HW-SC-T8x2-SM-Brass-ABN-400. and that is what I have in the mod. I also added 90 degree aluminum corner brackets to help square up the base frame. Not needed, but did help. I used M5 x 12 mm socket head cap screws and 5 mm hammer head T nuts to assemble the base.
