Simon Mansion established himself as a master of luxury woodworking, crafting Empire-style furnishings with meticulous attention to detail. His work was distinguished by its simplicity and precision in even the smallest components. To showcase his skills, he created a piece of furniture adorned with Gothic motifs, lyres, spears, and copper bay leaves intricately inlaid into the wood, which he hoped to present to Napoleon Bonaparte, then First Consul. Following 1809, Mansion devoted himself exclusively to sculpture, producing several reliefs that decorated the Louvre's oeils de boeufs, particularly the clock on the Cour Carree, a sculpture titled "Lyric Poetry and Music" in 1824. He also created busts and statues commissioned by the state. According to his daughter, Mansion lost his sight in 1824 due to his intense work on the Louvre reliefs and passed away as a poor victim of his dedication to the Empire, having refused to create a statue of General Moreau requested by the Restoration government.
