Reliquary Head of Pope Alexandre: A Masterpiece from Atelier Mosan, circa 1145 The reliquary head of Pope Alexandre is a breathtaking masterpiece created by the skilled artisans of Atelier Mosan around 1145. Crafted from silver, it boasts intricate chiseled and gilded details that elevate its ancient inspiration to new heights. Its base, made from woodcore, showcases exquisite craftsmanship with champleve enamel, flowing brass, and chiseled and gilded accents, complemented by cabochons and shimmering silver pearls. The feet, crafted from brass, are elegantly designed and gilded, although one of the hind feet has been restored. This magnificent reliquary has a rich history, originating from Saint-Remade Abbey in Stavelot. It is now proudly displayed at the Musée d'Art et d'Histoire (Musée du Cinquantenaire) in Brussels, Belgium. Utilizing ReMake and ReCap Pro software from AutoDesk, this digital creation brings the relic to life, allowing us to appreciate its grandeur and beauty in unprecedented detail. This reliquary head forms a majestic silver portrait inspired by ancient times, resting upon a base designed as a portable altar that was consecrated by Wibald, the abbey's leader on April 13th, 1145. According to this date, the champleve enamels adorning the base are believed to be the oldest figurative enamels preserved in the Meuse region. These stunning enamels depict the saints Alexander, Evence, and Theodule, as well as the personifications of the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit.
