Reliquary from Vadstena Convent (SHM 349:2)
myminifactory
A relic container is a vessel for sacred remains. These remains might have been tangible parts of holy individuals like bones, fragments of clothing or objects closely tied to the spiritual figure. It is unclear what this relic container once held. This relic container dates back to the 15th century and was crafted in the Vadstena convent. Using needles and thread, the nuns at Vadstena created visual scenes and symbolically charged motifs. They embroidered with gold and silk thread, utilizing techniques such as couching and split stitch, along with beads and various types of metal foil. The wooden container is completely covered by the embroidered textile, with a pink lining inside, while the wooden base is painted in red and green. This relic container was added to the museum's collection in 1703, and at that time it was already missing its lid.\r\n\r\nThis object was scanned by Historiska, The Swedish History Museum
