Relief slab from the revetment of a pedestal

Relief slab from the revetment of a pedestal

myminifactory

This relief originated at Mantineia, Arkadia. It constitutes a single panel from a set of four slabs that formed the facade of a pedestal for statues of the Delian trinity (Leto, Apollo, and Artemis), or possibly an altar. Three out of nine Muses are shown holding musical instruments and scrolls in this relief. Its style is unmistakably Praxitelean, and it was likely crafted by one of Praxiteles' skilled pupils.
