Relief slab depicting three Muses

This relief was unearthed at Mantineia, Arkadia. It forms part of a collection of four slabs that made up the decorative surround for a pedestal supporting statues of the Delian trinity - Leto, Apollon and Artemis, or perhaps an altar. Three of the nine Muses are depicted here, each holding musical instruments and scrolls in hand. The relief displays a distinctly Praxitelean style, suggesting it was crafted by one of the renowned sculptor's apprentices.
