This original cast was part of the main entrance of the San Petronio Basilica, Bologna's primary church. Dating back to 1425, the central portal is a masterpiece created by Jacopo della Quercia. The Old Testament's scenes are depicted on the pillars and eighteen prophets on the arcaded vault above. Scenes from the New Testament are shown on the architrave, followed by a beautiful Madonna and Child and Sant'Ambrogio and San Petronio on the tympanum. The central tympan's arch is a work of art by Amico Aspertini.
