This metope relief with Eos and Kephalos from the temple of Selinunte, belongs to the "architectural decorations" collection in the Archeological Museum in Palermo. As this was the case with the metope, also some of the architectural decorations found during the great excavations in the 19th and 20th century were transferred to the Museum of Palermo, with aim of showcasing the magnificent temple architecture of Selinunte. The specimens showcased in the collection, provide evidence of the wide range of cultural exchanges of Selinunte and, in particular, its relationships with the Aegean world. Among such decorations, the roof of temple A, entirely made of Persia marble, stands out for the high degree of stylistic refinement and as a fine example of fine skillfulness. Since the late archaic period (temples D and F) we find, instead of terracotta, stone decorations on the cornice of the roofs. The high edges of the mouldings of temple F, made of limestone, were richly decorated with floral motifs.
