Relief of a Sphinx and lion
myminifactory
This ancient architectural fragment from Ain-Dara came to light shortly after archaeologists discovered a massive basalt lion, leading to a full excavation of the Ain-Dara temple. The fragment showcases a sphinx and a lion and was used to adorn the temple's portico flanked by three steps (out of four) carved in basalt - visible on the left side of the model. The Ein-Dara temple, situated near the village of Ain Dara, in Agrin, Rojava, stands as an Iron Age Syro-Hittite temple, drawing parallels to Solomon's Temple (also known as the First Temple). In late January 2018, Turkish Air Force jets severely damaged the temple during their Afrin offensive, leaving at least 60% of the structure in ruins. Further reading can be found on Wikipedia.
