Relief, Reign of Sargon II, 721-705, Duir-Sharrukin (Khorsabad), Palatial Sector, Alabaster Gypsum. Musée d'Art et d'Histoire (Musée du Cinquantenaire, Brussels, Belgium). Made with Zephyr3D from 3DFlow. The first Mesopotamian piece in our Museums was still installed at the Gate of Hal when bought in 1854 by Antoine G.B. Schayes, curator from 1847 to 1859, who purchased it from Luigi Calamatta. This relief is from Khorsabad, and its origin is likely no coincidence since Luigi Calamatta's father-in-law, Raoul Rochette, was part of the commission led by P.-E. Botta that was preparing the publication of search results. The MRAH number is 0.48 (formerly in the collection of P.-E. Botta, M. Raoul Rochette, and L. Calamatta).
