Relief fragment from the Golden Gate
myminifactory
The Golden Gate stood strong during the reigns of Byzantine Emperors Theodosius I and Theodosius II (408-450). As the iconic twin square towers, they are now just two of seven towering structures that make up Yedikule. Originally, the Golden Gate served as a grand entrance to the city for those arriving via the Roman road from Europe, with four imposing towers built into Theodosius II's formidable land walls. Its massive doors were once resplendent in their gold-covered glory.
