Reindeer Rabbit
thingiverse
In the spirit of the holiday season, I'm putting a simple spin on the default rabbit provided by Meshmixer software. Based on Rudolph from the classic 1964 movie "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer," the Reindeer Rabbit boasts its own tiny reindeer antlers and a new shining nose. While some might call it a Jackalope, I'm choosing to see it as something entirely new. This quick print is made with minimal material (it's hollow) so you can easily create one for yourself or make multiple copies as simple gifts for family and friends. Print Settings: Printer Brand: Ultimaker Printer: Ultimaker 2 Rafts: No Supports: Yes Resolution: 0.15mm Infill: 0% Notes: I used Craftware to print this part, which you can download for free from https://craftunique.com/craftware. I find it more user-friendly than Cura and think it's worth checking out. If you're interested in printing exactly as I did, I've included screenshots of my slicing settings in Craftware. You'll also find the .cwprj, .gcode, and .stl files along with this post. While it's not necessary to print this part with any infill, scaling up the design might make some infill worthwhile. The trickiest part to print is undoubtedly the antlers, but with the right supports, the ears aren't too difficult. I used Makergeeks' Maker Series PLA at 230 C for most of the print, then reduced the temperature to 215 C once it started printing the antlers to minimize drooping and stringing. I also slowed the speed to 70% for the antlers, but that didn't seem to make a significant difference. For optimal results with the antlers, you'll need maximum cooling. Given its relatively small size, this print doesn't use much material and should take about an hour to complete. When I first printed it using a 0.2mm layer height without adjusting the temperature or speed for the antlers, the only notable difference was slightly less smooth antlers. Feel free to ask any questions or share your own tips in the comments, and please include a picture of your print if you decide to make one!
