She bursts onto the scene in episode one, battered but still standing after a disastrous activation test with her Evangelion. Once she recovers from her injuries, Rei joins forces with Shinji to take down the Angels, earning their first major victory against Ramiel.[18] Next up is Matarael's assault on Tokyo-3, where Rei teams up with Shinji and Asuka to defeat the Angel in a thrilling battle. She then joins forces with Shinji and Asuka once more to take down Sahaquiel. Later, she's seen creating dummy plugs for the Evangelions. Alongside Shinji and Asuka, Rei clashes with Leliel in an epic showdown. However, her next encounter with Zeruel ends in defeat as she and Asuka struggle to overcome the Angel. Despite being seemingly killed while saving Shinji from Armisael late in the series, Rei returns under mysterious circumstances. It's later revealed that the resurrected Rei is actually the third incarnation of Rei, with the first having been killed years prior to the series and the second meeting her demise in a previous incident.
