Regenerative Hybrid Electric Plane Concept 01 Hybrid electric planes are just around the corner, but let's take it to the next level by adding regenerative turbines. Why not harness electricity from motion, mid-air, just like an electric car regenerates energy from braking? We can feed the engine flow output directly into a turbine behind it, creating a seamless and efficient system. The falling mass of the plane could power extra turbines if designed correctly. By closing or tucking them in during takeoff and climbing, we can then open them up during descent, generating electricity from the inevitable fall. This strategy takes advantage of the fundamental law that what goes up must come down. We can time this perfectly to regenerate power without interfering with normal plane functions, all at no extra energy cost for flight. Just as a car brakes and regenerates energy, an electric plane could fall and recapture axle rotation, storing it for reuse and saving on fuel economy. With careful design and timing, we can harness the falling mass of the plane to our advantage, creating a more efficient and sustainable flying experience.
