The space is for printer paper and small items that one needs, but there's no possibility to attach another shelf board. So simply hang a piece of wood under the shelf board and you're done. To prevent the whole thing from falling down, I've secured the holders with 3.5 x 35 mm plywood screws. The resulting gap is approximately 6.5 cm depending on the strength of the boards.
