Reel Retainer Replacement

Reel Retainer Replacement

thingiverse

Another essential component for your vintage reel to reel tape recorders. A replacement reel retainer for vertical machines, specifically designed for those iconic models from the 1960s and 1970s. The original rubber retainers, which came standard with these devices back in the day, have long since lost their elasticity and are no longer functioning as intended. Initially, I considered crafting this part as a single, friction-fit component, but ultimately decided that longevity would be better served by a more intricate design. After all, sometimes less is not more. To assemble this piece, simply tap the holes on top to receive an M3 screw. Insert a 17mm x 5.5mm spring into the slot of the lock mechanism (ensure it's aligned properly, just like in the accompanying image). Then, secure everything together with two 10mm x M3 countersunk machine screws. That's it – your replacement reel retainer is now complete!
