Reed Switch Holder (NO or NC operation)

thingiverse

This project involves a 14mm x 2.2mm NO (normally open) reed switch and optional neodymium magnets, measuring 6mm x 1.5mm and 4mm x 1.5mm. You can acquire the switches for US$4 per 10 pieces and the magnets at about US$1 for 20 of each on eBay. The connector materials consist of old network wire and round machined pin headers, also from eBay. The reed switch is kept secure and aligned using these parts to function as a magnetic switch, either in NO or NC (normally closed) configuration. For easy trimming, the parts have 0.2mm tabs that can be clipped off after printing. A parametric SCAD file is available upon request for custom sizes. Instructions are provided on how to bend the leads carefully without breaking the glass seal, positioning the magnets for NO and NC operation, gluing the pieces if necessary, and installing using #18 wire nails. To install on a door, tape the two pieces together, magnet opening up, close the door, mark the installation points at the upper edge of the door, and affix them accordingly.
