Redesign Y-belt idler
prusaprinters

I had two issues with the PrusaI3MK3S

Squeaking noise

Y-belt Misalignment

The squeaking noise comes from the m3 screw and the bearing. The resistance between the screw and the bearing is less than the bearing itself so it metal to metal that causes an annoying squeak. As you can read in the assembly instruction many people have difficulties with the y-belt alignment. See instructions (https://help.prusa3d.com/en/guide/2-y-axis-assembly_25488 Step 32 and 39).
To resolve the issues, I redesigned the Y-belt idler. I had to replace the Belt Pulley for a 12mm/5mm one (6GT2DNNOT5MM).
I made a tight design so based on your printer’s tolerance you might need to sand a bit. Once the axle is in its slot it is hard to remove. There is a small hole to pinch it out but better is to lock it at final installation.

Hope you enjoy the design and leave a comment for suggestions, comments etc.

Print instructions

I have printed in PLA but might be better in PTEG or ABS
Print the axle standing
